First Congress panel in Bonn – Opportunities for congress venue Bonn

BONN, GERMANY - Around 500 guests from politics, economy, culture and science took today part in the 1st Congress panel to which SMI HYUNDAI, the operator and investor of World Conference Center Bonn has invited.
The aim of the Congress panel is to contribute to the exchange in Bonn and the region in order to promote the congress destination Bonn. With the World Conference Center Bonn (WorldCCBonn) the city has obtained a versatile congress center that is prerequisite in order to strongly position the destination Bonn on national and international congress markets. The extension building of the Congress Center will provide from end of 2009 additional capacities also for bigger events of up to 5,000 participants. The extension building will be accompanied by a 4-Star-Plus hotel of the Althoff-Group with 350 rooms. New economic incentives will, however, require new challenges to the services of local institutes and companies.
The speakers of the Congress panel which in future will take place annually were Dr. Man Ki Kim, Hon. Chairman of SMI HYUNDAI Corporation, the Lord Major of Bonn Mrs Bärbel Dieckmann, Michael Swoboda, Managing Director of IHK Bonn / Rhein-Sieg and Matthias Schultze, Vice President of SMI HYUNDAI Management GmbH.
Dr. Man Ki Kim explained the reasons for his investment in Bonn and the World Conference Cen-ter Bonn. The historical prominence of the city, its central location in Europe, the good infrastructure, international companies and networks as well as good development opportunities are a pro for Bonn. SMI HYUNDAI lays the foundation for further business in the European market with the construction of one of the biggest and most modern congress centers in Germany.
The settings to reinforcing the congress business in Bonn are good. In their speeches the Lord Major, Bärbel Dieckmann, and Michael Swoboda, pointed out the advantages of the location: good accessibility with superb infrastructure, a comfortable amount of hotels and good security standards. The city of Beethoven also provides a variety of programmes. Also the direct location in the former parliament and government district is a great advantage for the Congress Center. The neighbourhood to the United Nations, the German Broadcasting, the DAX-companies Deutsche Post World Net, Postbank und Deutsche Telekom, the museums and the numerous international associations and organizations make the new center of Bonn and the WorldCCBonn to something very special, to a venue for dialogue in which important future topics are being discussed. Mrs Bärbel Dieckmann appraised the investor SMI HYUNDAI for its willingness to invest in the congress destination Bonn.
In order to internationally position the WorldCCBonn and Bonn the worldwide structures of SMI HYUNDAI will be used. Accordingly SMI HYUNDAI will institute at some of its business offices continuous representations for the international congress venue Bonn. With regard to the fields of competence the focus is first on Berlin. The opening of a representation office in Berlin is planned to be in the first half of 2008.
SMI HYUNDAI provides together with the city of Bonn, companies of Bonn and partners from science, politics and culture, to Bonn a location of economy and dialogue. These „roadshows“ take place under the slogan „Future - made in Bonn“ within Germany and on international platforms in companies, commercial representations, consulates and embassies. Especially multipliers from economy, politics, media and science are being approached.
In the former plenary hall of the Federal Parliament and in the Wasserwerk – the already existing buildings of the World Conference Center Bonn – were visited in the past years by 50,000 to 60,000 people annually. Annually 200,000 people are being expected to visit the World Conference Center Bonn at the end of 2009 when the extension building is ready to use.
