BONN, GERMANY - The German Chancellor Mrs Merkel has inaugurated on May 28, 2008, together with the German Minister for the Environment Sigmar Gabriel in the World Conference Center Bonn the final deliberations within the 9th UN Nature Conservation Conference, to which 122 Ministers for the Environment from all over the world were expected. Until Friday, May 30, the delegates of the High Level Segments held their meetings for the United Nations in the former plenary hall of the German Parliament.
This event has put the World Conference Center Bonn, with SMI HYUNDAI being its operator, for a couple of days into the focus of worldwide media. During the 9th Conference of the participating states of the Agreement on Biological Diversity in Bonn in-between May 19 and May 30, around 5,000 international delegates have deliberated on measures to protect and to sustainably use nature which is basis for our lives. Subject of the conference was to significantly reduce the loss of biological diversity until year 2010.
The response of the participants regarding the convention facilities was very good. “Bonn is an outstanding UN-location and a great host. The conference participants feel good here and that counts a lot for the meetings. Bonn has turned to an established and favoured UN location. The conference facilities are excellent." This was said by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on May 28 on the occasion of the opening of the Minister Segments of the 9th UN Nature Conservation Conference in Bonn.
Also Mr Matthias Schultze, Vice President of the World Conference Center Bonn, is pleased about the positive feedback: „By the UN Nature Conservation Conference the Congress venue Bonn will be even more associated with the topics environment and sustainability. This in its turn supports us in our strategy to network with partners in sustainability, our field of competence, and to initiate events.”
This event of great international impact affirms SMI HYUNDAI in its endeavour to build an even bigger Convention Center right next to the former German Parliament in Bonn, in order to host also in the future important UN conferences as well as other business meetings.
