BONN, GERMANY - On July 16 the General Secretary of the United Nations Mr Ban Ki Moon visited the World Conference Center in Bonn that is being operated by SMI HYUNDAI. After signing in the Golden Book of Bonn in the Town Hall he went to the Langer Eugen on the UN Campus in order to visit the seat of 16 out of 17 sub-organizations of the United Nations in Bonn, Germany. Then he continued to SMI HYUNDAI’s headquarter, the former German parliament on the UN Campus, where he met Dr. Man Ki Kim, Chairman of SMI HYUNDAI. Dr. Kim showed him the construction site of the emerging new World Conference Center on a model. He also presented the overall construction and operating concept and the progress of the Project as Public Private Partnership project between SMI Hyundai and City of Bonn to support UN’s operation in Bonn. After a press photo inside the building the UN General Secretary spoke in the plenary hall of the World Conference Center to the assembled staff of approximately 600 people of the United Nations Bonn.
SMI HYUNDAI is proud to have hosted the UN General Secretary in its European Headquarter and expects to have in future even more support to provide international meetings of the UN, NGO’s, agencies and companies in its facilities. By the end of 2009 Bonn will have a brand new Conference Center with space for up to 5,000 participants which is situated right next to the former German parliament. Bonn will then have excellent opportunities to host big events of international format having the World Conference Center, which is a combination of old parliament and new convention facilities, connected via a tunnel. As the United Nations building is just around the corner on the UN Campus, SMI HYUNDAI endeavours to have a continued and intensified active cooperation with the UN. For this end already today conventions of the United Nations are being hosted by the facilities of SMI HYUNDAI.
