The SMI Scholarship
The SMI Scholarship is offered to the Korea-Australia Research Centre at the University of New South Wales in Australia to encourage and assist young Koreans to excel both in their academic studies and to prepare themselves well for their contribution to the societies, Korean, Australian and International, after graduation.

Following are the recipients of the SMI Scholarship awards:
In Jun
(PhD in Organisation & Management)
In Jun is a PhD student at the School of Organisation and Management. He completed both a Bachelor and Master degree in Management at Yeungnam University in Korea. He additionally has an extensive list of honors and acheivements, including International postgraduate scholarship awards, a research assistantship in his graduate school, the Yoonam Non-profit Institution Scholarship and a four year scholarship in his undergraduate school.
Jae-Won Ahn
(Master in Accounting)
Jae-Won Ahn is currently studying a Master of Professional Accounting degree, having completed a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Sogong University in Seoul, Korea. His responsibility and leadership has been demonstrated in his work with the volunteer group C.H.A.N.C.E (Concern and Help for the Advancement of Needy Children through Education) and as a volunteer tutor for orphans.
Jae-Kook Chun
(Under graduate Finance & IB Y3)
Jae-Kook Chun has been an exceptional student in his current course, B. Com, at the University of New South Wales, gaining a cumulative WAM of 73.000. He furthermore has gained much leadership experience as the President of KOSA (the Korean Overseas Student Association).
Dae Yon Kim
(Under graduate B Com)
Dae Yon Kim is currently undertaking a B Com in Information Systems and International Business at the University of New South Wales. In addition to his academic achievements, he has been an exceptionally active leader in the life of his residential college, having served as the Chairperson of the Resident’s Society House Committee, the captain of the International House soccer team. He furthermore demonstrated his superlative ability to adapt to new surroundings, whilst exhibiting his outstanding skills in communication, being fluent in three languages.
Ki Tae Kim
(Master of Commerce)
Ki Tae Kim is undertaking a Master of Commerce at the University of New South Wales, researching the topic of Accounting Information Systems. His consistently outstanding academic results are supplemented by his astounding language skills and his wide reaching work experience in areas of high responsibility.
Tae Young Choi
(PhD in International Business)
Tae Young Choi is a current PhD student in International Business at the University of New South Wales, having completed a BMgt at the University of Western Sydney, a MBA at AGSM and a Masters of Commerce at the University of New South Wales. He is currently researching the topic of the Internationalisation Process of Cultural Products and the Culture Industry – Case of Korean Broadcasting Industry. His previous research experience, published by the Korean Government, has concerned the IT Industry in Southeast Asia Foundation Studies and the Korean Wave in South East Asia. Tae-Young has a long-term plan to work in areas linking Australia and Korea.
Jihee Kang
(Undergraduate B Com Y1)
Jihee Kang is studying a B Com (majoring in both finance and accounting) at the University of New South Wales. She has been a consistently high achieving student, whose responsibility and active involvement in a wide range of extra curricular activities has been highly regarded by both staff and students at her high school.
Anna Ji Hyun Min
(Undergraduate B Com Y2)
Anna Ji Hyun Min is undertaking a B Com (majoring in International Business) at the University of New South Wales. She has genuine and far reaching interest in cultural inter-relations, having studied both Japanese and Chinese with outstanding results.
Simon Chung Ho Son
(Master of Commerce)
Simon Chung-Ho Son is studying a Master of Commerce degree (Double Specialization Professional Accounting & Finance), having completed a Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering degree at UNSW. . He is also undertaking a Masters course in the College of Business Administration (Finance Major) at the Seoul National University in Korea as an exchange student.
Esther Bang
(Under graduate B Com (Finance) & Law Y3)
Esther Bang is double majoring in B Com (Finance) and B Law at the University of New South Wales. She has enjoyed success in her combined program and achieved remarkable results in all her subjects. She is also a leading member of Korean Commerce students Association at UNSW.
Christina Danbee Choi
(Under graduate B Com (IBUS) & Law Y3)
Christina Danbee Choi is double majoring in B Com (International Business and B Law) at the University of New South Wales. She performs well at her studies even while she is also involved in Korean Cultural activities and Law School Extra curricular meetings.
Sung - Hun Moon
(PhD in International Business)
Sung-Hun Moon is a PhD student at the School of International Business at the University of New South Wales. His current research project title is Korean Foreign Direct investment in Southeast Asia. Sung Hun is an extremely diligent student, who aspires to become an academic, contributing to theories and policies relating to international Business.
Samuel Kim
(Under graduate Actuarial Studies & BSci stats Y3)
Samuel Kim is double majoring in B Com (Actuarial Studies) and BSci (statistics) at the University of New South Wales. He has achieved exceptional results in all the subjects he completed so far. He is furthermore a leading member of Korean Students Association. UNSW.
Yong-Min Cho
(Undergraduate Finance & Law Y3)
Yong-Min Cho is undertaking a double major in B Com (Finance) and B Law at the University of New South Wales. He has accomplished superb overall results in his studies to date and is furthermore an active participant in soccer teams and rock climbing clubs.
Inyeob Ji
(PhD, International Macroeconomics & Finance)
Inyeob Ji is a PhD student in International Macroeconomics and Finance, currently researching the topic “Changes in Economic Policy in response to the International Finance Environment in Asian Countries since the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis”. He has consistently proved himself an outstanding student whilst undertaking his B Com at Sogang University in Korea and also while completing a Masters of Commerce at the University of Sydney.
